Team chats let you collaborate with your team inside Text App. You can create team rooms for multiple teammates or send direct messages to selected colleagues.

Rooms

To create a room for team collaboration:

  1. Navigate to Rooms under the Team chats section.

  2. Select the + button at the top of the rooms list.

  3. Name the room, select which teammates should be invited, and click Create room.

You start with a preset of rooms that you can use from the get-go. You can remove and manage the membership of every room except general, which includes all of your teammates by default.

Direct messages

To send a direct message to a teammate:

  1. Navigate to Direct messages under the Team chats section.

  2. Select a teammate from the list.

  3. Send a message using the message box.

Mentioning teammates and sharing files

You can mention a specific teammate in a team chat to let them know about the conversation or highlight their involvement. To do so, simply type in the @ sign and select their name from the list that pops up above. You can type a name after the @ sign to quickly filter the list.

To share files in team chats, select the paperclip button in the message box, select a file, and upload it.

Floating team chat window (Picture in Picture)

You can pop up a team chat in a floating window and keep an eye on the conversation while engaging with other tasks, such as chatting with customers.

Select the pop-up icon in the top-right corner of the chat to trigger the floating chat window.

Managing access to team chats

TeamChat is included at no extra cost as an integral part of Text App. That’s why each teammate is automatically granted access to it. However, you can manage their level of access by assigning appropriate roles.

To update a teammate’s TeamChat permissions:

  1. Navigate to the Teammates section and click on the profile of the chosen team member.

  2. Scroll down to Roles and permissions.

  3. Under TeamChat, choose between Admin and Member:

    • Admins have full control over the license, user management, settings, subscriptions, and billing.

    • Members can create and manage rooms and use all team chatting tools. They do not have access to user management, subscriptions, or billing.

If you choose to remove a teammember’s access entirely (via the three-dot icon next to TeamChat > Remove access), they will no longer have access to Text App at all.
